Here's a sneak peek of the show's setup with the new lovelies included:
Wow. The RAW Artists event held at the RAVE in Milwaukee on June 23rd was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The turn out was huge, the talent was incredible, and the overwhelming responses I received were very encouraging. My partner-in-crime husband came along with me and I can tell you that he was also completely blown away by the whole experience.
There were makeup artists, hair stylists, graffiti muses, fashion entrepreneurs and so many incredibly talented visual artists! This type of collaboration really was fantastic and I enjoyed seeing all the other artist's creative genius in their area of expertise. They had professional photographers on site capturing all of the action:
We are in the final countdown...literally days until the RAW Artists Showcase happening on June 23rd in Milwaukee at the RAVE! I am preparing myself and all of my pieces for what I know will be a night to remember.
I had challenged myself to have as many new pieces as possible to take with me to the show. I've noticed that when there's an event or a deadline looming before me, I have an easier time at creating new pieces because my creative juices go into hyper drive. Though this is not always the case - I often experience an artist's block where I'm unable to create anything worthwhile.
In this instance, I'm pretty pleased with myself and my new pieces. I would say they have influenced my new overall look and I feel that I'm migrating towards a completely different style - my own niche.
We'll see where I go as I already have so many new ideas that I'm just waiting to jump into! On a completely different topic, I want to start including pictures of behind the scenes where the magic happens. Here's a little love creation my two insolent cat children left for me in my studio. I guess they were fed up with the lack of attention they were receiving and wanted to express their contempt. I have many candid pics that I post to my instagram account @paperfigs so follow me to see all of my latest and greatest and let me know what you think!
Happy Papering :)

Sneak peek at my Quilting with Paper Series:
After a long harsh winter with cold temperatures and gray, cloudy skies everyone experiences cabin fever and anticipates the first rays of springtime. Once those delectable sun spots make an appearance and feisty little flowers bully their way through the frozen ground, everyone eagerly starts feeling re-energized and ready to get out and go! But wait. How did all of this STUFF accumulate in the house? And why is it so dusty in here? When was the last time these curtains were pulled open?
That's when our little green cleaning friend comes in with his "Spring Clean" uniform on, ready to take on any task. Purging is his motivation and he's ready to take out the old and make room for the new!
So I've decided to adopt that mantra and I am ready to open up some space for NEW Pieces and Prints set to release in July 2016. For a LIMITED TIME only, I am offering a whopping 25% off ALL ART PRINTS, now through Sunday May 1.
What a great time to stock up on some colorful, original creations to add that extra WOW to your color craving walls! Want to surprise Mom with a special, one of a kind gift that she will keep forever and proudly bump you to that coveted "favorite child" spot you've been vying for since day 1?
And remember - Art Prints ALWAYS ship for FREE within the Continental US! Order today to receive your one of a kind art print from Paper Figments. Use Coupon Code PAPER25 at checkout!

I was asked to create two custom pieces for an event called "The Designer Show house." This event is a fundraiser for a non-profit organization called Eastern Kansas Child Care Aware, and their mission is to support the development and learning of young children by offering programs and services that improve the quality and accessibility of child care for working families.
I was told that I would need to create a piece for an 18 year old high school student with interests in Bohemian Chic style, turquoise blues, grays, and coral colors and with a particular interest in Sun and Moon features.
So I took off:
For me, sometimes the hardest part is in selecting the colors to use for a piece. These colors will be the first thing that someone sees and will cause that visual impact that artists strive for in their creations.
Then, slowly and surely the piece starts forming:
Once I start, that's when it really sets off for me as an artist. I start seeing how the piece is going to lay out, where the different colors should be placed in relation to its neighbor, and the overall mood that starts developing. As I see it forming, I get excited and newly inspired. This is how I know that creating art is truly a passion for me.
From my last post, you can see my process and how it unfolds in the video I uploaded. It's literally laying each piece down, one by one. until they all come together to create the completed design:
I had so much fun creating the Sunscape Image that I wanted to create another to stand beside it:
I feel that both the pieces "Sunscape" and "Moonscape" turned out exactly as I wanted. I may not have necessarily known that's how they would ultimately look, but I couldn't be happier with the final result. This is why I love working with paper. I will have an idea, but the paper and their colors, textures and how they interact with one another on the canvas, will often times dictate how the piece will end up. It's all a journey - one that starts with a vision and ends with a passion.
P.S. - Prints for Sunscape and Moonscape are available in my Gallery under the Prints section.
I love watching other artists in action: seeing their process, technique, medium of choice and how it all comes together in the final masterpiece. I've watched quite a few time lapse videos and I really feel as the viewer, that we get to experience the piece in the making (as cliché as that sounds). These types of projects inspire me the most, and really get my inner creationist dancing.
So I decided to attempt my own. Now, please understand that I am in no way a professional videographer/editor (obviously from my sweet editing skills and cool beats embedded in the video). But I had fun putting this little doohickey together and I know that I will create more in the future - so stay tuned! This video is approximately 6 1/2 minutes long in case you want to settle down with a bag of popcorn and your comfy slippers.
The piece being showcased is "Wise Feather". This was the last in the series of three (you can view them all in the gallery section of my site). I've had a lot of people ask me how I do what I do. And as you'll soon see, I keep it pretty simple. I'll admit that there's a little preparation beforehand, but I like to try to keep things as fresh and spontaneous as possible. The rest comes from that inner creationist diva.
So with that - enjoy and Happy Papering!
At the request of many, I have decided to offer the image in it's original form for "Elephant's Lullaby". The updated image will include the original border that was part of the design from the beginning. The final print size will stay the same at 10"H X 13"L which includes the 1/2" white border around all sides.
Just thought the borders added a little something special to this already unique design. Thank you again for all of your positive feedback and Happy Papering!

Hello and welcome to the first blog post for Paper Figments! I wanted to create this page as a way for followers and admirers to get updates and access to all the exciting things going on in the paper world. I will provide cool info on all things paper, as well as new pieces I've added and new promotions happening.
I thought it was only fitting then that my first post be about a new piece I'm currently promoting. This piece is titled "Elephant's Lullaby" and it was created to bring awareness to the delicate existence of elephant's. Elephant's popularity has grown over the years as more and more people become aware of their majestic beauty and the intimate relationships they have for one another. These gorgeous beasts are fighting a battle that they cannot win without help - the battle for their lives. They are being hunted and harvested, and the young separated from their mothers to be held in captivity for the enjoyment of man.
To offer support to those fighting to help elephants and other wildlife, I am donating all proceeds received from the purchase of each print to the World Wildlife Fund, in an effort to continue support and spread awareness. Every effort counts and these beautiful creatures need our help today. So please consider purchasing a print of "Elephant's Lullaby" and share with everyone so that they too may offer support and spread awareness.
You can find "Elephant's Lullaby" in the Prints category of my Gallery section. All details and print specifications are listed there.
Thank you for your support!
