Image created entirely of decorative and handmade paper materials and finished with a gloss medium varnish.
Original on gallery wrapped canvas with dimensions of 36″W X 24″H with 1.5" depth. Embellishments added to edges for additional detailing.
This was the first of my Scrap Series and the foundation for much inspiration. I wanted to reuse many of the thousands of scrap papers I had left over from previous pieces and came up with an idea to create "decorated strips" or pillars as I now call them. This became the basis for two new pieces following this one and altogether they make up the "Mental Trilogy." The pillars provide the viewer with a sense of movement from papers being overlapped, interwoven and wrapped around to create an intricate, textural design.
