Image created entirely of decorative and handmade paper materials with watercolor details and covered with a gloss medium varnish. Jute ribbon and brad embellishments added to edges for additional detailing.

This is a product of an "Artful Challenge" between myself and another paper collage artist. With completely different techniques, we wanted to challenge ourselves as artists in a friendly competition. We decided upon a theme and we chose "Madonna and Child." This is a special piece for me as I am currently exploring a relationship with Jesus and trying to determine what role he'll have in my life. For me, the relationship of Jesus and his mother Mary is a special one and in many other renditions I can see the emotional, deeply loving connection they have for one another. I wanted to depict my own version, and I intentionally left out their faces to show more of the mother and child relationship than the persons themselves.
